ADA Compliant Wall Sconces
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was enacted in 1991 to mandate the design and layout of publicly accessible areas to accommodate disabled persons. Section 4.4 of the ADA addresses "protruding objects" which would include wall sconce lighting. This section states ADA compliant lighting is defined as "projecting from walls with their leading edges between 27 in and 80 in above the finished floor (and) shall protrude no more than 4 in into walks, halls, corridors, passageways, or aisles."
Dutton Brown offers a variety of ADA compliant wall sconces that meet these criteria. Please be advised to choose bulb sizes that remain within the required criteria as larger diameter or longer bulbs may go outside the acceptable range.
